He also noted that in 2023, fully electric vehicles and premium models from the upper price range will be the primary growth drivers.
The 55,979 electric vehicles sold by BMW in the first quarter was an increase of over 100% from the same period last year.
BMW saw an increase in sales only in the United States, where the total number of vehicles sold went up by 11.4% to 89,750.
The Chinese market is forecast to stabilize this year despite a 6.6% drop in sales, the company says.
Sales of BMW in Europe fell by 1.9%, largely due to a ban on exports and production in Russia, where Chinese brands are reaping the rewards of the departure of Western automakers.
